Run Around the Square Can’t Run Without Volunteers Like You!
Here are the Volunteers we Need:
Distribute letters to residents
We aim to inform residents about the race is happening and how that impacts them. Task takes 1-3 hours depending on the number of volunteers.
We aim to deliver the letters about 1 week before the race. You may do this task at a time convenient to you within the allotted days.
Packet Pick Up- Friday night
Pass out t-shirts and race packets on 8/25/2023 from 5:30-8pm at the Wilkins School Community Center. Snacks provided.
Packet Pick Up- Saturday morning
Help is needed on 8/26/2023 at 6:50am to pass out t-shirts and packets at the Wilkins School Community Center. As the morning progresses, volunteers will fold up tables and help to clean up space. If you are running the 5k, you can still fit this volunteer task in.
Barricade Volunteers
This is our #1 race day need! We have to keep the course safe for the runners. We do that by putting barricades out at intersections and staffing those with volunteers. Please note that we are asking volunteers to place and remove their barricade. It is a 2 person job to move the barricades. If you are unable to set up and remove the barricades but willing to man your barricade, sign up to volunteer, notify the coordinator and we’ll get you the help setting up and removing the barricade at the end.
Location assignments can be selected. If none are selected, one will be assigned based on priority of intersections. Volunteers will receive their location when they arrive to pick up their volunteer shirt on Friday night.
Barricades need to be in place and supervised beginning at 7:45AM
Water Stop Volunteers
Keep our thirsty runners hydrated and cheer them on! This is a fun job and a great way to support the race. Set up and clean up of the space is required; supplies and instructions will be provided. Great for a group- kids welcome!
3 locations- Lancaster and Hutchinson (both runs) (7:30 arrival), end of the 1.5 mile (7:30 arrival) and in the woods near the Frick Park Environmental Center (8:15 arrival).
Caboose
Walk at the end of the pack holding signage indicated the conclusion of the race so barricade managers and water stops know to shut down. Help encourage all the runners. If you are able to make a banner/sign and/or buy balloons for your caboose, please let the volunteer coordinator know.
Finish line set up
1st shift is setting up the finish line water distribution and assisting with the preparation at vendor/sponsor tables as needed. You will need to be able to lift heavy bags of ice and cases of water.
Finish line help
Help distribute water (refill the bottled water into the cooling tubs), help at the very popular D’s table, pass out snacks at the Run Around the Square table and other assistance as needed.
Hang No Parking signs
Take a lovely stroll along the race course and hang up no parking signs. Supplies and instructions will be provided and the work will take place 8/24 in the evening.
Remove No Parking signs
Immediately after the 5k race, walk the course and help make sure Regent Square is all put back together. Bring scissors or cutters to remove No Parking signs. If a barricade is still blocking the course, please remove it. The laminated No Parking signs will need to be returned to the staff and we will provide that drop off information. This is a great job for a group, like Boy or Girl Scouts.
If you would just like to be involved and are happy to be placed where our need is greatest, there is a volunteer category for that on the sign up sheet!
